New CSC officers take oath

President Miriam E. Pascua administers the oath of the new the Central Student Council (CSC) officers, June 7, at the Office of the President, FEM Hall.

Reindel Owen E. Salvador, a fourth year BA Sociology student at CAS, serves as president. On Feb. 3, he won in a lopsided match against Christian Dick Ignacio, then a second year BS Biology student, also at CAS. Salvador was last year’s CSC vice president.

The other CSC officers won unopposed:  Marie Stella U. Gaspar, vice president; Bianca T. Pastor, secretary; Loi Kristel M. Tubera, assistant secretary; Jonalyn E. de Ocampo, COE; Rodel T. Labang, CBEA; Oliver Laforteza, CBEA; Kenrick Randel A. Ibana, CHS; Sherwin D. Dannog, CAFSD; and Michelle A. Amoranto.  CAS philosophy instructor Fides Bernardo A. Bitanga serves as their adviser.

 

Hundred-percent Stipend Increase and Mutual Aid Fund, effective next academic year

          Board Resolution Nos. 1132 and 1133 take effect this coming school year 2011-2012. The former doubles the stipend of academic scholars from P1, 500.00 to P3, 000.00 for university scholars and P1,000.00 to P2, 000.00 for college scholars. The latter includes the medical assistance for a maximum of P5,000.00 to students who undergo medical operation to be included in the Item No. 7 of the Implementing Rules and Regulation of the Students Mutual Aid Fund. The Central Student Council initiated the implementation of these new projects that will surely benefit the students.

           The two resolutions were approved during the Board of Regents meeting on March 22, 2011 at UP Diliman, Quezon City.
 

Owen Salvador and new officers to lead Marianites

          Reindel Owen E. Salvador, an incoming senior Sociology student, will be leading the Central Student Council and the MMSU studentry in the coming academic year 2011-2012. Salvador garnered 5, 311 votes to make him the new representative of the students in the Board of Regents, the highest governing policy-making body of the University. Joining Salvador in the forefront are Marie Stella U. Gaspar of CAS as Vice President, Rozanna Bianca T. Pastor of CAS as Secretary, Jonalyn E. De Ocampo of COE as Treasurer, Rodel T. Labang of CBEA as Assistant Treasurer, Oliver Laforteza of CBEA as Auditor, Kenrick Randell Ibana of CHS as Business Manager, Sherwin D. Dannog of CAFSD as P.I.O. internal and Michelle A. Amoranto of CIT as P.I.O. External.
   

MMSU Student Qualifies for 2011-2012 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program

Student Regent Jonas Paul B. de la Cruz qualifies for the 2011-2012 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program awards in the United States. He is one of the 9 successful nominees from the Philippines from the original pool of 76 applicants.

De la Cruz’s approved program is for one term, which will begin Spring 2012. A Washington, DC-based organization will be responsible in his university placement.

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program is funded by the US State Department and administered by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF). It is designed to provide a large and diverse group of student leaders with in-depth exposure to US society, culture and academic institutions by engaging in substantive academic exchanges at colleges and universities in the United States. De la Cruz will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work chosen from the US host institutions’ existing curriculum to allow for ample opportunity for on-going interaction with US faculty and student peers, and for exposure to US academic and classroom culture.

“The impressive academic accomplishments and goal of Mr. de la Cruz have made possible his selection as principal candidate”, says PAEF.

 

26 Graduating Students received Sen. Loren Legarda Leadership Award

          Among the 1, 612 marchers of MMSU Batch 2011, 26 student leaders from the different colleges were recipients of the Sen.Loren Legarda Leadership Award. They were recommended by their college based on their deep involvement in co-curricular and have been identified to have shown exemplary leadership involvement in the implementation of student activities that had greatly contributed to the success of the organization, of the College and of the University.

            The recipients were Warren Dae M. Abadilla, Mark Ariel L. Agressor, Nove Katherine B. Palafox of CAFSD. From the College of Arts and Sciences, the recipients were Dennis Sam M. Lim, Marie Chola T. Perucho and Alanah mae. P. Ramelb. Student leaders of CBEA also received the award. They were Valerie Mary Anne C. Ablan, Dharrel O. Arellano, Dejay LL. Aurtiz, Johnwilfred B. Bacnat, Eunese Mari U. Retutal and Mark Alvin R. Tabije.  Marchers from the College of Engineering who received the award were Jonathan P. Banguil Jr., Eloisa Felipe, Jerry D. Paz and Emil Kit John B. Tapac. Three graduating students from the College of Health Sciences also received the award. They were Kriezl Jane M. Bolusan, Bryan A. Corpuz and Gerald John P. Tan. College of Industrial Technology’s student leaders were also awardees including Jeffrey R. Buena-Agua, Arjay P. Borja and Jenny L. Hasal. Florante A. Agoo, Ramil J. Baltazar, Jho Mar A. Factor and Mark Rodney P. Vertido were the awardees from the College of Teacher Education.
